Types of Braces
Today’s braces are better looking and more comfortable than ever before. And now patients have a variety of different orthodontic options to choose from, including metal braces, tooth colored braces, lingual braces, Invisalign, and removable retainers.
Metal Braces
The traditional stainless steel braces that we use are “Micro Arch” brackets which are milled for optimal orthodontic precision. They are low profile, providing favorable esthetics and patient comfort. We have elastic ligatures (which hold the wires onto the brackets) in different colors, which allows patients to choose new ligature colors at every visit.
Tooth Colored Braces
These ceramic braces are fabricated using the latest esthetic ceramic technology, and their high translucency makes them an excellent choice for patients who want their braces to be less noticeable. They move teeth the same way metal braces do, but are a more esthetic and attractive option for orthodontic treatment.
Lingual Braces
Lingual braces are placed behind your teeth, and are therefore virtually invisible to other people. Usually, lingual brackets are made of metal. The obvious benefit of this type of treatment is that no one will know that you are wearing lingual braces unless they look inside your mouth! Hawley Retainer
Orthodontic retainers are often used after braces have been removed to hold teeth in their new position while surrounding gums and bone adjust to this new position. Often a person will need to wear them only at night. The length of time one must wear a retainer varies, but an average teenager will usually be advised to wear it into their early 20s, or even longer under special circumstances.
